MEMS Tiltmeters for Precise Inclination Monitoring

mems tiltmeters

When a slope starts moving or a foundation settles, catching the tilt early matters. MEMS tiltmeters have become a standard tool for this kind of monitoring—compact, responsive, and easier to integrate than traditional bubbles or force-balance units. At Kingmach, we build these instruments for surveyors, engineers, and monitoring contractors who need data they can trust without chasing calibration every few months. Our focus stays on practical performance: stable readings over temperature swings, straightforward installation, and compatibility with common data loggers. Whether it’s a highway cut, a retaining wall, or a deep excavation, the goal is the same—spot the problem before it becomes a failure.

Technical Detail

Configured around process stability, mold life, and long-term uptime.

A MEMS tiltmeter from Kingmach isn’t a lab curiosity; it’s a field tool designed for the long haul. We use proven MEMS sensor elements that hold their zero point well, so you’re not constantly re-zeroing after temperature changes. The housing choices cover most common deployment scenarios: stainless steel for borehole installations, aluminum for surface mounts, and compact versions for tight spaces on structural beams. Customization is often what makes these projects work. We regularly adjust cable lengths, connector types, and even the output signal format to fit existing monitoring setups. Our technical team will walk through the details with you—what bus are you using, what logger, what kind of weather it’ll face—and we’ll spec the right version. Global distribution means you’re not waiting weeks for a replacement part or a backup unit. We’ve shipped to sites from the Andes to Southeast Asia, and we keep spares in regional hubs when possible. For long-term projects, we can also provide maintenance kits and calibration fixtures so your on-site crew can handle routine checks. If standard specs won’t cut it, the factory can tweak the sensor’s range, resolution, or reporting interval. That’s not a sales pitch; it’s a reflection of how many monitoring jobs have their own quirks. You’ll get a tiltmeter that fits into your project, not one that forces you to adapt.

FAQ

Common technical questions

What ranges do your MEMS tiltmeters cover?

Most jobs need ±10° or ±30°, and that’s what we stock. But we can stretch that to ±60° for applications like boom angle monitoring on construction equipment. Just let us know your expected tilt range and how fine you need the readings.

How do you handle temperature drift?

Every MEMS sensor drifts a bit with temperature; the question is how much. Our units are factory-calibrated over -20 to +60°C, and we include a temperature sensor for software compensation if you’re logging. In practice, drift stays under 0.005°/°C for the standard models, which means you can get reliable data even on a sunny concrete slab.

Can I bury these without a borehole?

For shallow burial, we have an in-place inclinometer version that comes with a protective tube and seal. It’s not designed for direct soil contact like a pressure cell, but it works for monitoring shallow slope movements or road settlement when protected by a PVC casing.

What output signals do you support?

4-20 mA, RS-485, and voltage outputs are all standard. If you need something else—say Modbus or SDI-12—we can modify the electronics. It helps to know your data logger and the available channels before ordering.

Do you offer calibration services after purchase?

Yes, we recommend annual recalibration for critical projects. Send them back to us, and we’ll run a full check with an NIST-traceable dividing head. Turnaround is typically 5 working days, and we’ll let you know if anything needs replacing.
